SSM is a donation-based ministry supported primarily by the generous gifts of those who want us to remain available to minister to people experiencing financial distress. While it would be reasonable to expect most counselees to contribute something, Kansas law prohibits us from charging fees or even receiving donations from those for whom we do creditor negotiations, which is over 80% of our clientele. As a result, those who know us and believe in what we do must provide the “sustenance” for the ministry. Even though we have over 100 volunteers who help in the office and provide hundreds of hours of free counseling, without the faithful donations of our supporters, SSM could not exist.
